The College of Business and Management Sciences (COBAMS) is a constituent college of Makerere University with a mission to serve society through the provision of effective practice-oriented learning and research. It was formed in 2011 and is composed of 3 schools and 7 departments namely: School of Economics, School of Business, and School of Statistics and Planning. The College’s mission is to produce high calibre professionals and promote research and knowledge transfer in Economics, Statistics, Business Management, and Population Sciences, for informed policy and sustainable development. Staff at the College conduct multiple research projects across different disciplines such as finance, health, social sciences, business, management, and economics. Owing to the need to promote research integrity, the College established a Research Ethics Committee – the College of Business and Management Sciences Research Ethics Committee (CoBAMS-REC). This CoBAMS-REC was accredited by the Uganda National Council of Science and Technology with a reference number of UG-REC-032 after the successful completion of a series of activities including site monitoring visits and training. The core mandate of the CoBAMS-REC is to review and approve research studies and monitor research activities to ensure that they are compliant with the scientific and ethical requirements as stipulated in the national guidelines for research involving humans as research participants.
