Bruno Lule Yawe is an Associate Professor of Economics in the Department of Economic Theory and Analysis, School of Economics, Makerere University. He has taught at the School of Economics in the College of Business and Management Sciences (CoBAMS), [formerly, Faculty of Economics and Management] Makerere University since 1999. He holds a Bachelor of Science (Economics) Degree of Makerere University, Master of Arts (Economics) and Doctor of Philosophy (Economics) Degrees of the University of Dar es Salaam. He currently teaches Managerial Economics; Intermediate Microeconomics; Research Methodology and Mathematical Economics to undergraduates. At the graduate level, he teaches Gender-Aware Macroeconomics; Project Planning and Management; Quantitative Methods I; Health Economics; Macroeconomics for Policy Analysis; Microeconomics; Alternative Health Systems; International Health Care Systems and Managing Health Services. His PhD thesis is titled: “Technical Efficiency and Total Factor Productivity Growth in Uganda’s District Referral Hospitals”. He has attended several short courses in Econometric and Research methods, Computing Skills and the Measurement of Efficiency in Public Sector Organizations, Climate Change Science and Modeling of Biophysical Impacts, Multi-Methods Research. He has consulted for local and international organizations in various areas. He received advanced training in Quantitative Methods, Economic Theory and elective courses in the fields of Health Economics and Financial Economics. He also participates in facilitating on monitoring and evaluation short courses.
He has published in the following journals amongst others: Tanzanian Economic Trends, TET: A Biannual Review of the Economy; Health Policy and Development Journal; Zambia Social Science Journal; Telecommunication Policy; and the International Journal of Social Ecology and Sustainable Development. He is a recipient of the following research grants: (i) October 02nd 2012 – June 30th 2013. Climate Change and Malaria in Uganda, with funding from the United Nations University-World Institute for Development Economics Research (UNU-WIDER) and the African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) – REF CC 12507; (ii) 15thFebruary 2012 – 30th June 2013. Labor Market Dynamics in Times of Crisis: Evidence from Uganda with funding from the University of Witwatersrand, South Africa (with E. Hisali and J. Ddumba-Ssentamu); (iii) April 2010 – April 20, 2013. Technical Efficiency and Total Factor Productivity Growth of Uganda’s Primary Schools, with funding from the African Economic Research Consortium, Grant No. RT09518; and (iv) April 01 2011 – March 31 2012. He served as Adjunct Faculty in the Department of Economics, American University, Washington DC during March & April 2009 where he underwent mentoring to teach Gender-aware Macroeconomics to the UNDP sponsored Master of Arts (Gender-Aware Economics) Program. He served as Coordinator of the Master of Arts (Gender-Aware Economics) Program.
