PIM CoE at Makerere University owes its origin to the ongoing reforms in government aimed at improving returns on Public Investment. The Centre was officially launched on 10 th March 2022 by the Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development Hon. Matia Kasaija, and is currently receiving support from the Government of Uganda. The Centre was established with funding
from the Foreign Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO) administered by the World Bank with the main objective of sustainably building capacity in Public Investment Management in Uganda. This was in response to the 2016 Public Investment Management (PIM) diagnostic study conducted by the World Bank, the Ministry of Finance Planning and Economic Development, and Makerere University School of Economics that discovered inefficiencies in Public Investment Management in Uganda.
