Biography

Dr. Eria Hisali is an Associate Professor at the School of Economics, Makerere University. He is currently serving as the Principal of the College of Business and Management Sciences, Makerere University.

He holds a PhD in the field of Economics and a Master of Arts in Economics from the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania and a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Makerere University.

Dr. Hisali has served the University and the community in several capacities including his current role as Principal of the College of Business and Management Sciences, Makerere University and a Board member for a number of institutions including the Financial Markets Development Committee and Technology Consults. He is also a member of the Board of Research and Graduate Training and a Member of the Senate of Makerere University.

His tenure in leadership has registered a number of achievements including streamlining the accountability structures at the College to enhance efficiency and utmost transparency in resource management, human resource capacity development and laying a firm foundation for the financial sustainability and visibility of the College. He has provided exemplary leadership and mentorship to many of his colleagues and supervised many students at the graduate level (Masters and PhD). He is a peer reviewer for a number of Journals.

His record is backed up by a very good publication record in internationally reputable journals as well as links to international academic and professional networks including the African Economic Research Consortium and the Trade Policy Training Center in Africa (trapca).

He has undertaken policy oriented research on various aspects of Uganda’s economy including the informal sector, small holder agricultural development and exchange rate movements.

He is also an adjunct faculty at the Trade Policy Training Center in Africa (trapca) based in Arusha, Tanzania. He has previously worked as a visiting Lecturer at the Joint Facility for Electives of the Collaborative Master of Arts in Economics Programme run by the African Economic Research Consortium. He has also consulted for various local and international organizations.
